What if…

What if you actually did meet God, you asked him about Jesus, and he said, “Damn, what a nutter!”

Letter to Representative Monique D. Davis (D), 27th District Chicago

Posted in General at 12:58 pm by Kate

Representative Davis:

I am shocked an appalled at your clear hatred and prejudice of atheists as reported in the Chicago Tribute. To claim that atheism is dangerous to children while simultaneously spewing forth such hatred is nothing short of hypocrisy. You are a bigot. You are a danger to Chicago’s children and those of the rest of the world. You stifled free speech. You have violated the constitutional guarantee of freedom from religion. You do no represent me, my views, or anything that America stands for. And what shocks me the most is that such vengeful, hate-filled speech came from a Democrat. Shame on you!

You are here.

You are in a small room facing west.  There is a window behind you and a door on your right.

You have been eaten by a balrog.

You have gone to hell.

Work on the product customization sequence while you are here.

Sally Kern Has a Gay Son?

Posted in General at 12:42 pm by Kate

No, wait, it gets better.  I seems that Oklahoma bigot Rep. Sally Kern has a gay son that she’s apparently disowned because of the way God made him. Ellen DeGeneres has weighed in on the controversy as well, calling Kern’s office.

Oh God, I’m an Adult

Posted in General at 1:25 pm by Kate

I had to face a terrible reality this morning.  I paid for a song - really - actual money.  And it was playing on BBC Radio 2.  And it is the theme song to “Jam and Jerusalem”.  There’s no denying it anymore.  I’m an adult. I’m going to go wax philosophical about how things were better when I was a kid.

Yesterday was … d00d… so kewl…

Toyota have finally done it! A plug in prius!

Posted in General at 11:34 am by Kate

Toyota, the firm which we all thought would never actually do it - have finally launched a press release and video of their Plug In Prius, the first commercial Plug-In-hybrid for Japanese roads. While the car is still in testing phase, with eight plug-in OEM vehicles being manufactured and released for testing in Japan, hopes are high that Toyota will soon release this car to the general public.

Another Shameless Company Plug

Posted in General at 10:49 pm by Kate

So straight on the heels of my praise for Google’s suite, I’ve another company to point at. Remind4u has started a new range of greetings cards designed to be delivered by WAP. Having not done any of the work on this, I can’t take any credit (or much blame), but the cards aren’t too shabby - tweaked versions of the paper ones. Unfortunately for most blokes (and some women), some of the more risqué cards were pulled. I suppose one of the Stig cards will have to do for my dad this Father’s Day.

Gone Google Mail And Not Looking Back

Posted in General at 8:37 pm by Kate

So I started using Google Mail (Gmail) a while back, giving it a trial after using Thunderbird and then Outlook 2007.  The review?  Absolutely brilliant.

Let’s start with the basics.

  • Gmail is fast, very fast.  Like most Google applications, the initial page load is usually under 2 seconds.   Even loading the “All Mail” folder regularly requires no more than 6 seconds.
  • The spam filtering is better than most.  Experts in data analysis already, Google’s spam filter is quite capable.  It still lets a few through; apparently I am quite lucky and have won several million pounds from “Yahoo Financial Promotions”.  All things considered, I’m quite happy with it.
  • The integrated search is so good, I don’t bother putting email in folders anymore.  I used to obsessively put email that I needed to keep in a strongly hierarchical folder structure, ensuring that I could always find email that I need.  And to be honest, when I started using Gmail, I was a bit put off that it isn’t set up with that in mind.  Quite the contrary, Gmail is set up as a minimalists dream.  All you email goes into an archive that can be searched with same speed as Google’s more common search engine.  So instead of ferreting through folders, my email is just a textbox away.

These reasons alone would seem to warrant a switch. But wait; there’s more:

  • Gmail is integrated with Google’s Dekstop Search.  So, even if you aren’t reading your email, you can search for it.
  • The contact manager is capable as Outlook’s.
  • You can always read your mail from anywhere, any computer.
  • The keyboard shortcuts keep you moving extremely quickly.
  • Greasemonkey scripts and Firefox can be used for extending functionality.
  • You can read any other SMTP/POP3 mail in GMail, so you don’t have to change your email addresses.
  • Gmail keeps a copy of your sent mail as well.

However, it’s not all sunshine.

  • There’s no integration with a mobile phone.  I’m still looking for a decent way to get appointments, contacts, and mail on my Windows Mobile based phone.
  • If you loose Internet access, you’re dead in the water.

So if you get a chance, I highly recommend making the switch.
