Coming Out … As a Mac User

A co-worker asked me whether Macs were “the way to go” and whether I would recommend buying one over a Windows laptop.

I paused. This is it. This is the moment those weird Mac people tell you about.

He’s a reasonably intelligent chap though not a geek per se. Switching platforms would involve a bit of overhead for him. Further, I’m the lead geek in my company, so I have to be careful with my advice.

“Yes, but with a caveat,” I replied. “If you buy a Mac, keep in mind that it’s not a Windows machine. Things are done differently on a Mac.” We went on to talk about Office, iWork 09, interoperability, and the like.

Then it occurred to me. I really am a Mac user, albeit a bit of a n00b. Now, there is this small matter of being a .NET programmer….
